The last update, around the end of march 2025, broke the connection to my Apple Watch for heart rate monitoring. It did a decent job before this. I’d give it 4/5 before this update as a simple app for tracking rows with no bells and whistles.

I love that the app lets you do much more complex workouts versus what’s solely on the pm5. Also love the automatic logbook and workout review screen. My wish is for the pace calculator on the website to be integrated into the app to help plan workouts. A bug I have often is ErgData being stuck in landscape mode after a workout. No, my phone screen rotation isn’t locked.
I use this app almost daily. It connects seamlessly with my PM5 rower. I’ve never had a disconnection. Highly recommend.
I have used the app in its various incarnations since 2018 but in the last three months it has, with no error message, no obvious signs, despite keeping it and the PM5 fully up to date, lost about 20% of my workouts. They complete, it shows that it’s busy as if saving and uploading the data to local and Concept2’s storage, and subsequently there is no entry in the logs or Apple Fitness (to which the app is “synced”). Nothing. The data is thrown out without confirming that it was synced/written to permanent storage. This is such an amateurish and, frankly, dumb, problem to have in an app in this era. Preserving user data is job #1 for any product that collects user data - often without our full knowledge of how it is collected or used but in this case it’s data I want to save. Why would I use an e.g. shopping list app that deletes any list I make as soon as the phone goes to sleep? There is no excuse. Now I have to go back to the PM5 (where it *is* saved but from which it *cannot* be recovered to the app or online log) and manually extract the numbers I can and maintain my own spreadsheet. This also renders leaderboards, Apple Fitness metrics, and any statistics the app or website generate meaningless as they are not comprehensively representing my workout progress by irresponsibly losing tens of kilometers/many hours of my effort on a monthly basis.
Since the update in March 2025, workouts no longer sync with the Apple Watch for work out tracking.
Works okay half the time. The other half of the time the app fails to sync the workouts to Apple Health. Then I have to reconnect the app to Apple Health and / or grant the same permissions I’ve already granted multiple times, again and again. It’s been a constant issue for years so clearly the app developers don’t know how to fix it. They could at least do a check at app startup and let the user know to go fix some settings *before* the workout. But they haven’t done that either. Total garbage.
It is bit wired about AH data sync. iPad app shows option to sync rowing distance, but not iPhone. On iPhone AH app there is no ErgData shown as source of rowing distance data. Not a big deal not to have it, but would be nice to have a fix for it.
I don’t know why there are so many low rating reviews didn’t read them closely. But i find the app super helpful especially the heart rate readings from my apple watch displayed on screen helps me change my strokes and intensity to keep it where i want the HR to be at. The collected data is also pretty good. The UI looks dated but that’s the only thing i can find which is lacking. Other than that it’s awesome.
When it works, it’s awesome. They need to invest more in ensuring syncing always works. Or there could be an ad hoc option when things crash
The latest update has stopped syncing data with the health app, so it’s not quite as useful in tracking health metrics as it used to be.
I love this app, but sometimes the connection between ErgData and iOS Health gets disconnected. This means you lose those workouts until you notice something wrong. This is extremely frustrating. It seems that one common cause of this is app updates. I suggest a couple of ways that the developers could address this issue. 1. ErgData could check the connection on startup and if it sees that the health connection is lost, prompt the user to re-establish it. 2. When the connection is re-established, it would be ideal if ErgData could send those workouts that didn’t get sent because the connection was lost.
This app makes it easy to configure my rower workouts and keep track of them. The rower wouldn’t be the same without it.
No HR during workout and workout not synced to Apple Health/Fitness
The app is great when it works. It logs me out every week. On top of that, it doesn’t remember your username so you have to keep creating new profiles each time. Very frustrated
The PM5 gets a big boost when combined with this app…I pair my heart rate monitor and iPhone with the PM5, record workouts to C2 logbook, and also have them synced into Strava and Apple Health. After two years of use, the app has done a great job keeping everything on the same page. Also appreciate the ability to load workout of the day right from the app. Good work all around by devs — and grateful for no subscription fee!
I love this app, it’s great for tracking my heart rate while I row, and the logbook is good to track my progression over time. My only gripe is that it will not register interval workouts as a workout in the fitness section of the Apple Watch. Get that fixed and it will be 5 stars!
How do you make an app that will be used on iPads with no proper iPad support? The app is janky and doesn’t even have a horizontal orientation.
Latest update caused my HR data to stick or lock up for 90% of my rows. Used to work fine. Now I only get the last 10% of row HR data. Tested outside app and HR works fine.
I don’t know if I can recommend this app. Connects fine to PM5, but workouts don’t log in Apple health - despite providing all permissions to do so. Disappointing
Yep
Have always had the ability to upload BikeErg workouts to Strava. Worked 1/20 but no longer works on 1/21. Please fix…
I like the idea of an app to track workouts and check in with others BUT the app doesn’t stay connected to the bike. I start the workout and 2 minutes in, the workout ends because of connection issues so I have multiple broken workouts. It also says to push an update to the app but it keeps saying failed. Honestly pointless app at this point.
Very poor and limited for the bike. Concept 2 is stuck on meters and won’t give you any options even though the coding can be done in minutes. This app isn’t much more than an excel spreadsheet and it’s very empty for the bike.
This is an absurd invasion of privacy. Why can’t i just have an appliance that i can connect to with my phone? Why can’t i just log my activity without signing on to some internet server that by the way reserves the right to sell my data? I just wanna row. At least i can do that without logging in. For now.
Since a few weeks the app doesn’t upload the data to Apple Health. Reset doesn’t help, very annoying.
Great app! But, I wish they automatically calculated and displayed METS in addition to calorie and watts.
I row for a high school team and this helps me connect up to Strava, keep past piece times no matter if I’m using an erg at the boathouse, school, gym, or home. Plus I can go in an analyst the rows that I do to a greater level - it’s a great app. Plus the challenges are great for motivation (especially the ones where concept 2 donates to various charities based on the number of participants rowing).
Just errors in every direction. Not a polished app. I can’t reset my password because the link they send in the email is broken and returns a 502 error. Error messages in the app don’t give any detail to figure out how to solve the problem.
After installing this app all my previous data on the PM 5 are gone. Nothing left after months of rowing and saving the workouts on the PM 5. Update on this review: My data was not gone, it just did not appear in the logbook of this app, it was still in memory of the PM 5. I am still working on figuring out this app. I get data from my Garmin watch, maybe that will be enough for me.
The app won’t record workouts. It lets you set goals, it gives you real time heart rate tracking. It lets you see your pace. But it falls flat on its face when it comes time to save the workout. I’ve resorted to taking screenshots. It’s just really frustrating.
Works, but not particularly user-friendly. The app doesn’t seem to recognize workout if started from the monitor rather. Heart rate connection is always manual for me even though I selected “yes” when the app asked me if I wanted automatic connection. Would it not make sense to open the app to the Favorites tab rather than to the Create tab? Or at least remember where user left the app off for the next time. The app could be improved.
Don’t trust this app to save data well! Disconnects frequently, doesn’t reconnect and there’s no way to back sync the data after you workout. Only way to get back lost workouts is to manually type them into the concept 2 website. Super frustrating. Oh and as a kicker is you try to get heart rate data from a smart watch that glitches and disconnects too… just ugh
ErgData is the least reliable app on my phone. Every update comes with new bugs. The latest issues? Breaking Apple Health integration and unreliable heart rate syncing from Apple Watch.
I was excited to see the latest version of Ergdata from Concept 2, I previously used Live Rowing until they stopped updating it. Also excited to else it would display on my Apple Watch and pull my HR, so I would have to wear a HR chest strap, the one thing I hated doing with Live Rowing. However, after six different workouts, still not able to get app to read HR. Checked all settings, I checked off every data point to be able to be read and written to/from watch to app, still noting. Until this is corrected, can only give two stars, as my HR is the main way I gauge my workouts.
A must for any serious rower. Lots of very valuable information.
The latest update seems to have broken the connection with Apple Health. My workouts are not transferring over to Apple Health.
Since the most recent update on 7/3/24, none of my workouts are getting logged into my logbook. During the workout everything syncs between the PM5 and the app, but as soon as I end the workout, all data disappears from the app. Please fix this big issue.
please fix !! Thanks!
Latest update has disconnected from Apple Health and doesn’t record my workouts there and from there to Heart Watch and Zones. ☹️
The most recent update disconnected from Apple health
Could add a pace calculator to the app, please? Like the one on the website. Thanks! Nice job on the overhaul of the app. Took it for a spin this morning and did not have to skip a beat getting on the erg. It was very intuitive and had a lot of data right there that I wanted. And I could add data that I like easily. Heart rate monitor (Polar10) hooked up no problem. It’s been a long time coming, with the older version being very basic but very functional for a long time.
Why no synch to Strava
I’m thankful that this app was redesigned. It works better, and now allows use of the Apple Watch for heart rate so I don’t need to use my heart rate monitor anymore. Keep up the good work!
The average heart rate calculation for intervals is way too low. Looking at the graph makes it more obvious as the dotted line showing the average is lower than what is recorded. I used to think it was because the start of my intervals had a lower heart rate which averaged it out but it's definitely not. Please, fix this.
I’ve only been using it for a couple weeks but setup to my rower is extremely easy. Workout are very easy to set up and extremely customizable. I haven’t had to sign in more than once like a previous review says, I haven’t had any workouts be altered or deleted like other reviews say. This app is fantastic for what it’s supposed to do.
Please fix the sync issues between the app and the PM5. I do the WOD every day and I can no longer do that. The WOD won’t sync from the app to the PM5. Please fix! Thank you! I love my ROWERG and BIKEERG!!!
Old version from 2022 before all the fancy workout display changes was perfectly reliable for syncing workout data to logbook. New version is 50% reliable and will sit spinning and prompting for retries that also fail. Also old version used to automatically pull un-synced data from pm5. Now when it fails I need to connect computer to usb and run the concept2 utility to sync missing entries. Developer should focus on reliable record/sync first before fancy displays or provide the reliable “classic” version as an install option.
My PM5 shows the app is connected but no workout data is pushed from the app to the tower or vice versa.
